Veeva Expands Its Vision for Quality and Manufacturing

Veeva Briefing Note

Veeva’s Mike Jovanis, President, Quality Cloud, Jamie Crouch, VP Marketing, Quality Cloud,
and  Ashley McMillan, Senior Director, Veeva LIMS Strategy, provided an in-depth update on their continued progress across product innovation, customer success, and global expansion. The session emphasized practical innovation, customer-led development, and Veeva’s evolving strategy in areas such as LIMS, AI, batch release, and validation management.

Elevating the Quality Cloud as a Core Business

Veeva Quality Cloud is now formally recognized as one of four core businesses at the company. “We repackaged the way that quality fits within Veeva,” said Mike Jovanis. “It’s now its own cloud and one of the four core businesses.”

Quality Cloud stands alongside the Commercial, Development, and Data Clouds. While this is a branding shift, Veeva had already established fully dedicated teams supporting quality for years.

Investing in What Works: Veeva QualityDocs Enhancements

With over 300,000 daily users, Veeva QualityDocs is among the most widely used Veeva applications. The company has undertaken significant analysis and observation of how the platform is used to deliver efficiency to customers. “If we could save a couple of minutes out of the time of 300,000 people, the return on that work is extremely high,” said Jovanis.

Two primary enhancements are underway:

  • For high-volume users, such as operators and reviewers, Veeva is simplifying the interface and introducing a more flexible tabbed toolbar.
  • For power users and quality managers, a new “Action Homepage” will enable faster access to content and task-based navigation.

“These may not sound like major enhancements, but if you amplify it across our user community, we believe the impact will be significant,” said Jovanis.

Momentum Across Batch Release, Validation, and LIMS

Veeva continues to gain traction with newer offerings, including Veeva Validation Management, Batch Release, and LIMS.

Validation Management is being adopted across a range of customers. “We are seeing customer momentum in Validation Management,” Jovanis said. However, he cautioned against moving too quickly. “Customers have different appetites for change management, especially for those that are replacing long standing paper and manual processes with digital solutions. It’s best to keep them focused on successful projects and change management.”

Veeva LIMS

Batch Release has seen early competitive wins, most notably at a global biotech in Europe. “We spent a lot of time studying early projects and listening to customers,” said Jovanis. Veeva’s ability to connect regulatory and product data to determine where a batch can be shipped was seen as a key differentiator.

LIMS projects have gone live and are now scaling to large deployments. “Our biggest sites are now 1,000-person sized using LIMS,” Jovanis explained.

Market Expansion and Regional Tailoring

Veeva’s geographic growth strategy reflects varied maturity levels across regions:

  • The U.S. remains the most mature with stable, consistent growth over time.
  • Europe is showing new activity in markets like Spain and Italy.
  • India is emerging as a high-growth market.

“We’re seeing momentum in the India market, which has become a key area of growth for Quality Cloud. Our investment in a dedicated, 30+person team reflects our strategic commitment,” said Jovanis.

“We have anchored our presence with major, multi-product projects that will be a showcase for modern technology adoption in the market,” he added.

Future Opportunity Areas: EHS and Supplier Surveillance

Veeva is expanding its product roadmap in response to overlapping business needs.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS): Jovanis acknowledged the overlap between QA and EHS activities. “There is a logical reason for that. There’s a lot of things that are very aligned,” he said.

Supplier Surveillance: “The notion of supplier auditing is an inefficient process with hundreds of companies repeatedly auditing the same entities,” said Jovanis. “With the right buy-in from our customers, we believe we can curate and share audit information resulting in significant efficiency over today’s practices. We also believe there is an opportunity to identify signals in supplier quality across customers over time.”

This idea emerged from customer feedback. “While there are still some things to figure out, they viewed this as an opportunity for industry collaboration and sharing for collective good as opposed to something that is a competitive concern,” he added.

Practical, Embedded AI Capabilities

Veeva continues to integrate AI into the Veeva Vault Platform with a pragmatic approach. The new Veeva AI initiative enables users to build agents and shortcuts.

The roadmap for Veeva Quality Cloud includes AI features for:

  • Narrative summary generation
  • Translation services
  • Document similarity scoring
  • Regulatory change impact assessment

“Our mature customers have the right foundation of data in place and will likely be the first groups consuming AI capabilities,” said Jovanis.

LIMS Strategy: Redefining the Category

Veeva continues to emphasize that its LIMS product does not require a separate lab execution system. “There’s no lab execution system required, that is a layer that has been appended due to legacy LIMS vendors not keeping pace with customer expectations. We believe the best approach for a modern cloud LIMS is to optimize its use all the way to the lab technician,” said Jovanis.

Veeva has a continued pace of go-lives in small and medium size companies. In larger pharma, Veeva is pursuing targeted deployments at underserved sites to build internal momentum in advance of full-scale replacement projects.

Validating: Managing Expectations

Validation Management is now deployed across multiple customer segments. Jovanis warned that not all customers are equally ready. “In many cases we are transitioning customers from paper and manual processes, which requires the right attention to be placed on change management and digital readiness. This requires different planning than other implementations that are modernizing solutions spaces with well entrenched legacy technology,” he said.

Real-Time Audit Support and Remote Readiness

New capabilities in Audit Management, including Audit Room and Auditor Profiles, are designed to facilitate the work of the team responding to an inspector’s requests, logging actions, and providing a real-time response during a live audit.

“Cloud software can be used from anywhere,” said Jovanis. “It’s meant to facilitate the real-time response occurring in a live audit, in either on-site or hybrid environments.”

In Brief

Veeva’s approach to product development remains rooted in practical value and customer input. From simplifying interfaces to designing supplier surveillance based on feedback, the company is focused on incremental innovation.

The expansion into EHS, AI rollout, and growth in India reflect its adaptability to market maturity.

As Jovanis concluded, “Our innovation is a result of our deep customer partnership. We rapidly evolve our solutions based on early project insights, ensuring we deliver ‘fit for use’ products that earn us market credibility.”

We will continue to provide updates on Veeva as they become available.
