“Honeywell Life Sciences aims to accelerate innovation and deliver more value across the product lifecycle,” said Opatka.  He reinforced Honeywell’s three-pronged approach:

  • Customer-centricity: Deepening support and collaboration throughout the lifecycle
  • Innovation: Introducing AI-driven tools and automation to modernize operations
  • Partnerships: Strengthening ecosystems with partners like Salesforce, AWS, and Tulip

“We brought the Quality and Manufacturing businesses together to get synergies… This allows us to innovate much faster and more for what our customers are looking for.” He stressed the importance of partnerships and ecosystem collaboration: “No one’s going to be able to do this ourselves—not Honeywell, not you as a customer. It includes an ecosystem, and that’s my intention and strategy—to build that out further to support you.”

Honeywell Life Sciences Unveils Ambitious Product Roadmap

Martin Dowdall, Chief Product Officer at Honeywell Life Sciences, shared an ambitious product roadmap that highlighted Honeywell’s commitment to supporting businesses in their journey towards digital transformation and improved quality management.

He introduced the Honeywell TrackWise Life Sciences Platform, “a purpose-built solution designed to revolutionize the way life sciences organizations approach integrated manufacturing and quality management.” This platform intends to address critical needs across quality, manufacturing, and post-market activities through an integrated open ecosystem.

“These solutions are designed to provide comprehensive tools and platforms that empower life sciences organizations to achieve greater efficiency, compliance, and innovation,” said Dowdall.

At the heart of Honeywell’s product roadmap is an AI-first strategy. Dowdall emphasized the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence to drive innovation and efficiency in the life sciences sector. He stated, “Our AI-first strategy is designed to transform how life sciences companies manage, automate, and digitalize their operations.” This approach aims to bridge the gap between digital and physical manufacturing environments, helping organizations to digitize operations and automate workflows through AI-assisted processes.

Another key component of Honeywell’s product roadmap is the introduction of TrackWise Manufacturing, an AI-assisted, cloud-native platform. This platform is built on a containerized architecture that allows software applications to run consistently across different computing environments, eliminating the need for complex, siloed integrations. Dowdall explained, “TrackWise Manufacturing enables manufacturers to achieve greater flexibility and efficiency, allowing them to respond quicker to business needs and regulatory changes.” By leveraging automation technologies and life science compliance expertise, Honeywell aims to help life science manufacturers reduce technology transfer times and get products to patients faster.

Looking ahead, Dowdall outlined Honeywell’s vision for the future of life sciences. He emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing the industry through innovative technology platforms that improve product quality, meet global demand, and support new modalities while complying with evolving regulations. Dowdall stated, “Honeywell is dedicated to revolutionizing the life sciences industry by leveraging advanced automation and digital transformation to drive quality outcomes and deliver growth.”

Innovation and Disruption are Shaping Life Sciences’ Future

Daniel R. Matlis, President, Axendia, Inc.

This year, Axendia had the privilege of providing the Analyst Keynote at the Honeywell Life Sciences World Tour USA.

During the session, we discussed the pivotal role that innovation and disruption play in shaping the future of life sciences. The industry is experiencing continuous disruption from global events such as political unrest, natural disasters, and trade uncertainties. These disruptions drive the necessity for digital transformation, which is essential for maintaining competitiveness and resilience.

As Life science companies are increasingly focusing on improving patient outcomes through precision and personalized medicine, they are leveraging advanced technologies like AI, AR/VR, and digital twins. The CMS drug price negotiation program is another significant factor impacting the industry, with substantial revenue implications over the next decade. By fostering partnerships and aligning with visionary ecosystems, companies can achieve a healthier future and avoid being disrupted

Ultimately, the goal remains to improve patient outcomes through science and innovation, ensuring that the industry remains agile and responsive to evolving demands. To overcome disruption, our industry must build a culture focused on continuous innovation and improvement, as they are the cornerstone of business resilience.

The room was packed, and the response was incredibly positive! We are grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions!

Astella’s Digital Transformation Journey: A Case Study

Paul Viña, Senior Director of Quality Control at Astellas, presented a comprehensive view of the company’s global EQMS transformation—from TrackWise on-premise to TrackWise Digital.

Key elements of Astellas’ three-year program included:

  • Scope: A full replacement of legacy EQMS with 13 harmonized workflows rolled out across 50+ countries.
  • Guiding Principles: Simplicity, adoption of out-of-the-box capabilities, and a commitment to “configure, don’t customize.”
  • Governance Structure: Cross-functional sponsorship from Quality, Supply Chain, and IT enabled strategic alignment and effective execution.
  • Migration Strategy: Focused on data relevance (3 years) and phased rollouts starting with closed records.
  • Integration Planning: Balanced ambition with pragmatism—starting broad, narrowing scope, and ensuring alignment with stakeholders.

Viña emphasized that the most significant challenges weren’t technical, but cultural.  The focus of Astellas’ digital transformation journey was not on moving technologies.  The tech lift is often the easier part. The challenge lies in transforming how people work, harmonizing globally, and driving efficiency while managing expectations, mindsets, and alignment across regions.

Astellas adopted a clear mantra of configuring, not customizing, to avoid building a solution that would be difficult to support in the long run.
